Wastewater Treatment – Suspended Solids Treatment
Suspended solids are common in municipal and industrial wastewaters, and must be removed before the effluent can be discharged or reused.

Filters, separators, flotation devices, clarifiers, screens and other technologies and services are employed for this purpose.

Conventional Center Feed Clarifiers utilize an inlet pipe, which feeds a central stilling well to dissipate the influent velocity and create a hydraulic flow pattern directed radially outward. These clarifiers are provided with a rotating mechanical scraper for settled sludge removal.

Solids Contact Clarifiers are utilized when the overall process efficiency is enhanced by intimate contact of the pretreated influent with sludge generated in the process and where post-precipitation is likely. Lime softening is one such common application.

Peripheral Feed Clarifiers are often used for secondary clarification in biological treatment systems. These clarifiers offer enhanced solids separation and removal.

Flocculating Clarifiers incorporate flocculation zones integral to the clarifier basin. They are utilized where the floc formed is delicate, and can not be readily transferred from conventional flocculators to the clarifier basin without breaking up the floc.

Parallel Plate Separators provide a large settling area forsuspended solids in considerably less space than do conventional gravity circularclarifiers. Systems range in capacity from 15 gpm to several mgd, using multiple units. Hydraulic loading rates used in design of the parallel plate separator are similar to those used for conventional
clarification. Performance is equal to or better than conventional clarification and provides distinct parallel plate advantages. Units utilize minimal floor space, provide for low maintenance, installation and capital costs.

The Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system separates and removes suspended and colloidal solids, as well as fats, oils, and grease from liquid. It is designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of industrial markets including food processing, refining, metals, mining, pulp and paper, chemicals, tanning, and others. The DAF system is also used in municipal applications as a sludge thickener.

Case Study: Pre-treatment solution from Davco Products removes, BOD, solids and fats, oil, & grease from Ken's Foods wastewater facility.

The McDonough plant needed a long-term effluent processing system to meet the plant's immediate need, as well as groundwork for an envisioned expansion in three to five years.  Pre-treatment was needed for high biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) levels, and fats, oil, & grease removal, typical with food processing plants.
