Wastewater Treatment - Clarification
Wastewater Clarification, or sedimentation, is a common and essential process in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. Clarifiers consist of tanks or basins which hold wastewater for a period of time, allowing solids or other materials suspended in the water to settle to the bottom.

Wastewater clarifiers can be rectangular, circular, or use inclined plates which increase separation area in small spaces. Usually, some form of solids removal mechanism is designed into the clarifier—to collect and concentrate settled or floating solid material.

Siemens offers a complete line of clarifiers and clarification technology for wastewater treatment. Included are:

  • Rectangular and circular clarifiers
  • Inclined plate separators
  • Flotation separators
  • Chain and scraper sludge removal systems
  • Precipitators
  • Skimmers
  • Mobile clarification systems and services
  • Innovative high-rate systems
Case Study: Rim-Flo® Clarifier Exceeds Expectations

The Raleigh, NC treatment plant is a conventional activated sludge plant with both diffused air and jet aeration. Although their clarifiers were operating very well, the plant wanted to determine the performance characteristics of one of the large-diameter Rim-Flo® clarifiers under normal and high flow conditions, with particular emphasis on the overall hydraulic characteristics.
