Hardness can be a problem in public water supplies. Metal ions react with soaps and calcium-sensitive detergents, hindering their ability to lather and forming a precipitate. Hardness ions also inhibit the cleaning effect of detergents. Calcium and magnesium carbonates can adhere to the surfaces of pipes and heat exchanger surfaces resulting in a build-up of scale that may restrict water flow. In boilers, the deposits act as an insulation that impairs the flow of heat into water.
The presence of ions in an electrolyte, in this case, hard water, can also lead to galvanic corrosion.
Siemens Water Technologies offers a number of softening solutions to water treatment plants, including:
- Pumps
- Feeders
- Lime softeners
- Ion exchange and membrane softening
- Resin exchange and regeneration
- Thickeners
- And more
Siemens also provides pilot treatment systems and analytical testing to document the efficacy of treatment prior to installation. We also provide parts and service on all of our equipment, as well as equipment which may have been provided by other manufacturers.
