Biological Treatment - Biofiltration

Biofiltration is a biological treatment process commonly used to remove contaminants, usually suspended solids in water, or odor and other concerns in water, wastewater or the air. The contaminants are removed by microorganisms that  feed on the organic materials. This process reduces biological oxygen demand and suspended solids in the wastewater or the need for chemicals in odor control scrubbers.

Our biofiltration technologies are ideal for municipal and industrial treatment plants. Whether your plant is in need of biofliltration systems for process water, wastewater or groundwater applications, we have systems designed to meet your needs.

Biofiltration Technologies offered include:

 Submerged MBR Systems
These immersed systems are able to separate suspended solids from wastewater on a molecular scale. This means more accuracy and a larger volume of solids removal, which results in higher quality wastewater.

 Backwash Filters
These filters are more effective than conventional forward wash filters. They are also versatile as they are suitable for physical/chemical or biological treatment, or a combination of both. In addition to efficiency and versatility, backwashing filters have an economical advantage.

Case Study: ZABOCS Solves Odor Problem in Jacksonville Beach, FL

Pump station #10 is located in the resort community of Jacksonville Beach on the Atlantic coast of Florida.  Situated between picturesque neighborhoods and outdoor sports facilities, odors resulting from the station’s wetwell and adjacent manhole were resulting in numerous complaints.  The city along with the engineering firm Waitz & Moye determined they required a low maintenance odor control system capable of treating both the manhole and wetwell while not disturbing the surrounding community.
