    Enhanced Nutrient Removal Solutions

ENR solutions from Siemens are customized to a community’s needs, whether it’s an entirely new treatment facility or simply effluent polishing, or a combination of both.  Our enhanced nutrient removal solutions are designed to assure permit compliance and are completely customizable to meet the demands of any given application, regardless of the demand. The Siemens portfolio of products for ENR is designed to make the path to compliance a simple and economic one.

Technologies to Meet Your Vision of Sustainability

Many plants are capable of biological nutrient removal (BNR), but the regulations are swiftly changing in some areas to take wastewater treatment to a higher level- requiring enhanced nutrient removal (ENR).  Enhanced nutrient removal most often requires phosphorus levels to be less than .3 mg/l and total nitrogen of 3 mg/l or less.  The lowering of nitrogen and phosphorus levels to increase the quality of the wastewater effluent; enhanced nutrient removal (ENR), is accomplished through the use of advanced wastewater technologies.

Existing wastewater plants can be retrofitted with newer, more technologically advanced biological process solutions such multichannel oxidation ditches or sequencing batch reactors.  If the wastewater treatment process only needs slight effluent improvement, advanced filtration systems like denitrification filters or filtration systems can be added for polishing. For maximum nutrient removal, we combine biological processes and membrane operating systems to deliver the most efficient MBR on the market today.  The Siemens MBR provides reliable wastewater treatment and is capable of phosphorous removal levels of 0.03 mg/l.

    Enhanced Nutrient Removal Upgrades

If your wastewater treatment process only needs slight effluent improvement to meet the required limits for phosphorus and nitrogen, you can add tertiary filtration to your existing treatment process with minimal alterations.

The NxClear™ denitrification filter converts harmful nitrate-nitrogen into nitrogen gas and removes suspended solids from the secondary effluent. If your existing installation requires the incorporation of nutrient removal, you can add NxClear denitrification filters at a low capital cost without altering the existing treatment equipment or process.

The ASTRASAND™ Continuous Backwash Filter for physical chemical and biological treatment of secondary effluent, is a gravity fed, deep bed continuous backwash filter. Used for enhanced nutrient removal (denitrification and phosphorus), reuse, and polishing of municipal wastewater.

The CenTROL® filter systems maximize filtration area by clustering four filter cells around a common control column. The units are ideally suited for flow rates of 10 MGD or higher.  Standard system designs provide phosphorus removal and system enhancements provide denitrification now or in the future.

    New Wastewater Treatment Plant Options

If you are looking to incorporate ENR into the design phase of a new treatment plant, there are a wide range of package treatment options designed for smaller installations:

Davco™ biological treatment plants are pre-engineered, field-erected systems designed to reduce biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, total nitrogen and phosphorus.

OMNIPAC® sequencing batch reactor (SBR) package plants are pre-engineered and factory built, so there is less installation time and site preparation. Integral to the OMNIPAC Sequencing Batch Reactor is the OMNlFLO SBR process which accomplishes equalization, aeration, and clarification in a timed sequence in a single reactor basin.

The Orbal® multichannel oxidation ditch is a complete mix, looped reactor system with three concentric channels, which makes it ideally suited for conventional activated secondary sludge treatment, simultaneous removal and stormwater treatment.  Its unique aeration disc has both high oxygen transfer and unmatched mixing efficiency.

The Xpress™ Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) packaged plant provides reliable and efficient wastewater treatment as well as reduced maintenance for small scale applications (25,000gpd - 100,000gpd).
