The pilot test unit is a full-scale production model belt filter press mounted on a 50-foot curtain-side trailer. The typical test program involves a three-day test program to specifically evaluate the capacity of a belt press on your material. Test data is then summarized and scale-up parameters are reported on the basis of Meter of Effective belt Width (MEW).

The test program will typically consist of a series of predetermined test runs designed to evaluate the cause-effect relationship between certain key performance parameters:
- Belt Speed vs. Cake Solids
- Belt Tension vs. Cake Solids
- Throughput vs. Cake Solids
- Polymer vs. Cake Solids
- Belt Tension vs. Solids Capture Efficiency
- Polymer type
Following the test, the parameters are scaled up to provide a guarantee of performance on the size of unit selected. Results of full scale testing are extremely accurate, repeatable and can be used as the basis for performance guarantees.
The pilot unit can also be used to more quickly evaluate process changes in existing installations without the need for investment in process piping and equipment.
