Enviroscan Services - Analysis Guide

Every day, we test drinking water, wastewater, groundwater, stormwater, process water, soil, sludge, solids, waste and vapor.

Organics

  • Lab equipped to run 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
  • GCs with flame ionization detectors (FID), nitrogen-phosphorus detectors (NPD), photoionization detectors (PID), Hall electrolytic conductivity detectors (HECD), electron capture detectors (ECD) and thermal conductivity detectors (TCD)
  • GC/MS units using ion trap and quadropole detection techniques
  • HPLC units equipped with ultraviolet, fluorescence and diode array detectors

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

  • Solvents
  • Industrial cleaners
  • Dry cleaning fluids
  • Light petroleum products
  • Seven Gas Chromatographs and three GC/Mass Spectrometers (GC/MS) dedicated to analyzing samples for VOCs

Semi-Volatile Compounds (SVOCs)

  • Industrial process chemicals
  • Phenolic compounds
  • Plastics
  • Breakdown by-products
  • Diesel range petroleum products
  • Base neutral acid extractables (BNAs)
  • Two GCs, two HPLCs and two GC/MS with a dedicated GC for screening purposes

Pesticides/Herbicides/PCBs

  • Banned chlorinated compounds
  • Nitrogen/phosphorus/ triazine compounds
  • Carbamate insecticides
  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Four GCs and one HPLC for this testing, along with a network of qualified subcontract laboratories

Non-Routine Analysis and Research Projects

  • Formaldehyde
  • Alcohol
  • Glycol compounds
  • Access to mass spectral libraries allowing us to identify unknown compounds by referencing their spectral mass against the EPA/NIST library with 50,000 reference spectra
  • HPLC units capable of separating most organic compounds

Metals

  • Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma (ICAP) unit
  • JY Ultrace 138 to prevent misidentification due to interelement interferences
  • Perkin-Elmer Elan 9000 ICP-MS and twin Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometers (GFAAS) for very low detection level work
  • Dedicated Perkin-Elmer FIMs Mercury Analyzer for measuring mercury to sub-ppb levels
  • RCRA 8 and TAL list metals
  • Rare metals such as gold and platinum

Inorganics

  • Ion Chromatography (IC) used for analysis of common anions such as chloride, nitrate, nitrite and sulfate
  • Multiple Flow Injection Analyzers using colorimetric techniques are used to test for nutrients such as phosphorus, ammonia, TKN, ortho phosphorus and contaminants such as cyanide and phenols.
  • Multiple wet chemistry techniques used for analysis of BOD, COD, alkalinity, pH, sulfide and total solids
  • Sample digestion
  • Leaching (TCLP,  SPLP)
