The CIRCOX® process consists of a vertical cylindrical airlift tank where the biomass is maintained in the form of high density and stable granules with high settling velocities, without the need for a carrier material, other than for seeding. The process can be applied for both carbonaceous BOD removal, nitrification/denitrification (if required, in the same reactor), or for the oxidation of sulfide from wastewater to sulfate. Waste sludge is separated from the treated wastewater continuously and is recirculated.
The compact nature of the CIRCOX® reactor allows its integration on a site where space is limited, frequently allowing full treatment to direct discharge standards.
