Passavant

In 1960, the German company, Passavant, licensed to Beloit Woodlands Operation in Beloit, Wisconsin, to enter into U.S. market.  They broke away from Beloit Woodlands and moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1970 and became Passavant Corporation. They were later acquired by the Ventures Group of Houghton, Michigan.

In 1987, the U.S. Passavant operation merged with Zimpro which the Ventures Group had also acquired. They became the Passavant licensee for North America, offering a broad line of wastewater treatment equipment.

In 1990, Zimpro became affiliated with the Black Clawson Co., world leader in wastewater recycling systems and pulp and paper machinery.  A year later, Black Clawson bought Passavant from the German company.

In 1996, along with a number of other major acquisitions, USFilter purchased Zimpro.

In 1999, Paris-based Vivendi announced the acquisition of USFilter, later changing the name of the parent company to Veolia Environment.

And then in 2003, German-based industrial giant Siemens purchased USFilter's Water & Wastewater Systems and Water Services & Products businesses from Veolia.   This group is now Siemens Water Technologies.
