Aquatic Systems Management

Aquatic facilities can consume large amounts of water, energy and chemicals in maintaining a safe environment for swimmers, bathers, employees and spectators.  Rising costs for all three of these, coupled with increased regulatory requirements are forcing facilities to evaluate their operations to remain profitable, competitive and compliant.

Siemens Water Technologies provides Energy and Water Optimization (EWO) solutions that help aquatic facilities meet their treatment objectives at the lowest possible cost and risk. Our experts analyze your objectives, availability of chemicals, energy costs, transportation and labor costs to develop the optimum solution.

Aquatic Systems Management
Aquatic systems management for air and water quality

There are many areas where energy, water and chemicals can be reduced and conserved individually.  When the entire aquatic facility is fitted with analyzers, dosing systems and disinfection systems communicating to a central controller, tremendous savings can be realized.

Our aquatic management systems include solutions for both air and water quality...above and below the surface.

Here are just a few examples of how our aquatic management systems can help you.

Energy savings

Variable frequency drives can cut energy use by running at speeds that match demand, rather than at full flow against a partially open valve.

Varying the power output of medium pressure UV systems to match the demand reduces wasted energy and extends the life of the UV system.

Decomposing chloramines with UV light vastly improves the air quality so that energy savings can be realized in the HVAC systems.

Water savings

Recovering backwash water and recycling it into the circulating water reduces wastewater and the consumption of fresh water.  Energy savings can also be realized in recovering backwash water by reducing the heating load on fresh water make up.

Dilution water, used to lower the chlorine and chloramine levels in the basin water, can be eliminated altogether using medium pressure UV light.

Chemical savings

Matching chlorine dosing to meet the actual disinfection demand reduces over feeding (waste) and prevents under feeding (safety).

Similarly, matching the flocculation chemicals to actual demand optimizes the filtration process, reduces chemical consumption and backwash frequency (waste).

Using UV light as one of the disinfection technologies will reduce the amount of chlorine required to provide safe water quality.

Safety

Handling of chlorine gas can be dangerous.  Generation of sodium hypochlorite on-site from brine, using standard salt pellets, eliminates this potential safety hazard.  The hypochlorite solution is used immediately so there is no bulk storage of chemicals.

Medium pressure UV light decomposes chloramines to eliminate irritation to eyes and noses of swimmers, bathers, employees and spectator.

If your water requires acid to lower the pH, our CO2 systems effectively lower the pH without the associated hazards in storage and handling of acids.

Aquatic Systems Management Case Study:

Strantrol® System3 Eliminates Chronic Water Chemistry Violations at Resort Community’s Pools

For many years, property owners of Geneva National Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis., found it difficult to enjoy the outdoor pools at the gated community’s Swim & Racquet Club. Poor water chemistry control in the club’s 119,000-gallon main pool, 47,000-gallon lap pool and 4,800-gallon baby pool left swimmers and splashers with burning eyes, irritated skin and bleached bathing suits. On a number of occasions, the local health department shut down the pools because of improper water chemistry. In addition to the water chemistry problems, the overall condition of the pools had deteriorated greatly since opening in 1991. Fed up, the property owners’ association purchased the club from the original owner/operator and hired a general manager to make improvements for the 2001 summer season.
