Offshore Platforms

Sea water is used extensively on offshore platforms for a variety of applications.  In many of these, it is vital that fouling by marine organisms be prevented. Typically, these include water-flood applications where slime and growth can become deposited in the oil-bearing substrate, unless preventive treatment is performed. Fire-fighting pumps should also be protected against biofouling.

CHLOROPAC Systems for Offshore Platforms
Chlorine is the best method for treating this water; however, the use and bulk storage of liquid chlorine or liquid sodium hypochlorite offshore is a safety hazard. Siemens Water Technologies offers Chloropac® CTE technology, an advanced electrochlorination system that produces a dilute solution of sodium hypochlorite when required, injecting it directly into the water circuit.
