Drinking Water Fluoridation

Fluoridation is the process by which fluoride is added to drinking water for the purpose of preventing tooth decay. While very common in the United States, the practice is either banned or not performed in other parts of the world.  At the extremely low levels of fluoride being dosed and measured, precision and reliability of the dosing system are required to stay within safe and permitted levels of fluoride in the finished water.

Drinking Water Fluoridation

Fluoridation systems are comprised of a fluoride satuator, metering pump and residual analyzer.  Depending on the capacity of the water treatment plant, the sizes and styles of this equipment will vary.

The fluoride satuator and metering pumps have not changed much over the last decades, but major advances have been made to the on-line analysis and dosing control systems for fluoridation.  This is due, in part, to the increasing level of regulatory requirements and in part to the industry-wide advancement of high end electronics at a reasonable cost.
