American Gypsum Purchases Arsenic Removal System to Treat the Company’s On-site Well and Meet New Regulations

    Challenge

The customer had recorded arsenic levels of 16 ppb in their groundwater supply. This was naturally occurring arsenic due to local geology. In January 2006, the EPA implemented a new Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) standard which required arsenic levels to be a maximum of 10 ppb.

    Solution

The Siemens solution is based on carbon adsorption technology utilizing our proprietary Granular Ferric Hydroxide (GFH®) media. GFH was used on this project due to it’s greater adsorption capacity which results in longer run lengths before backwashing is required.

Siemens Water Technologies provided 16” diameter automatic, arsenic treatment units. This customer did not have a direct discharge line to the POTW for the backwash water, therefore, the system provided by Siemens was designed to allow the backwash water to be recovered and reprocessed.

    Results

Siemens Water Technologies arsenic treatment unit provided an economical solution and ensured that backwash water from the treatment system did not impact the clients on-site septic system.

The system's ease of installation afforded the customer the option to choose to have their own personnel complete the on-site installation.  Siemens local branch was sourced to provide the startup, training and on-going service needs.
