Microelectronic Customers Benefit from MEG PPQ Resin

Challenge

Customers needed an economic resin change out with a short rinse up requirement to below detection levels on ionic constituents and with TOC levels below feed levels.

Solution

With the requirements for maximum uptime and low risk on putting new resins on-line, Siemens upgraded its MEG resins.  The benefits for these customers include:

  • Enhanced resin processing technique
  • Lower residual contaminants levels allowed on resins
  • Enhanced resin QA parameters
  • By upgrading the conventional USF MEG resin to USF MEG PPQ resin, the additional costs are minimized. This allows the customers an economical option to other brand name UPW resins.

Results

Data results for two customers are shown below.

For one customer, 528 cu.ft. of USF MEG PPQ resin was supplied to coincide with their resin change out.  The result was the shortest rinse up time experienced to below previous detectable inlet levels.  Some of the key parameters were:

  • Na below 5 ppt DL
  • B below 20 ppt DL
  • SiO2 below 0.1 ppb DL
  • TOC with 0 ppb contribution with effluent measured at 0.5 ppb

For another customer, 775 cu.ft. of USF MEG PPQ resin was supplied saving the customer over 25% compared to the competition.  In addition, Siemens was able to buy back their exhausted resin resulting in even further savings.

Another customer requiring < 10 ppt boron performed a rinse up test with (2) other brand name Ultrapure resins in which the PPQ resin rinsed up to 0.5 ppb TOC and < 5 ppt boron within 4 hours.  They are replacing resin with 320 cu.ft. NR30 MEG PPQ.
