Singapore Odor Control Plant Ready to Go On-Line

Challenge

Ulu Pandan Sewage Treatment Works generates foul air from various processes throughout the plant. Therefore, an Odor Treatment Plant to treat 207,000 CFM was required.

Solution

Siemens Water Technologies provided the engineering, design, equipment, commissioning and testing services for this massive odor treatment plant which consists of:

  • 38 packed tower wet scrubbers
  • 17 dual bed carbon adsorbers
  • 18 FRP storage tanks
  • 5,000 feet of ductwork
  • 68 motorized dampers
  • 290 feet of FRP access platforms
  • 55 fans and sound enclosures
  • 76 vertical sump pumps
  • 55 chemical metering pumps
  • 130 tons of carbon
  • A makeup/effluent water treatment system
  • Local and centralized controls and instrumentation

Results

The odor control system is the first equipment in the extended plant ready to operate – long before the various processes that will be creating the odors.

Testing was required to ensure adequate performance:

  • System performance tested using bottled H2S
  • Excellent results: H2S removal efficiencies exceeded design specifications
  • H2S discharge concentrations less than 2 PPB

Ulu Pandan is one of six sewage treatment plants in Singapore. Because of its excellent performance on this project, USFilter has received an order for a similar odor control system to be installed at the Bedok Sewage Treatment Works.
