Sludge Drying

Biosolids are the nutrient-rich organic materials resulting from the treatment of domestic sewage at a wastewater treatment facility. Through biosolids management, solid residue from wastewater treatment is processed to reduce or eliminate pathogens and minimize odors, forming a safe, beneficial product for reuse, in accordance with governmental regulations.

Biosolids can be applied as fertilizer to improve and maintain productive soils and stimulate plant growth. They also are used to fertilize gardens and parks and reclaim mining sites, or as fuel for gas or steam production.

Biosolids Treatment - Sludge Drying
Sludge Belt Dryer
Drying is a common method of reducing the volume and eliminating most of the moisture content of biosolids. Convection or conduction heat drying systems produce a granular or pelletized end product that meets US EPA “Class A” biosolids standards for safe reuse in land application.

At Siemens, our sludge dryers and drying filter presses have demonstrated proven performance in thousands of municipal and industrial applications.  Each offers its own merits as a stand-alone product, while creating additional synergy of cost-reduction and dewatering effectiveness when integrated into turnkey systems.

Sludge Drying Technologies for Your Sludge and Biosolids Treatment Applications:

Sludge and Biosolids Processing Systems

Siemens provides pilot treatment systems and analytical testing to document the efficacy of treatment prior to installation. We also provide parts and service on all of our equipment, as well as equipment that may have been provided by other manufacturers.

Manure and Biosolids Dewatering and Drying
Human and animal waste can be used as fuel to power processes that minimize waste material in a cost effective and environmentally friendly manner.  Siemens can design and configure a combined cattle manure / human biosolids thermal drying system.

This novel thermal approach to handling two dissimilar materials will use waste heat from the facility’s electricity generation system.  The electricity generation process will employ methane gas to produce electricity. The methane gas is a by-product of anaerobic digestion of the cattle manure.

This green approach to waste handling makes a great deal of sense both from an environmental and economic perspective.
