Design / Build Wastewater Treatment Plant

Challenge 

The City of Marissa, Illinois was in need of upgrading and expanding their wastewater treatment system to increase their capacity and to have the ability to pretreat leachate from a nearby landfill.  They were also in need of funding and support for the construction required.

Solution

In a unique cooperative agreement, Waste Management, Inc. funded the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant and selected a construction and engineering firm to form a design / build team.   Waste Management, Inc. is the leading provider of comprehensive waste and environmental services in North America.  

Results

The OMNIFLO® SBR meets the State of Illinois wastewater treatment requirements and produces a high quality effluent with a very low NH3 output.  The faciliy was also designed to produce reuse quality effluent.  

  • Average Design Flow: 590,000 MGD
  • Average Daily Flow: 436,000 MGD
