Greencastle, Indiana, Uses Screw Pumps From Siemens Water Technologies for Lifting Water

Challenge

The Greencastle, Indiana, Wastewater Treatment Plant needed to raise water to its tertiary filtration building to complete a train of wastewater treatment processes needed to help the plant meet discharge limits.

Solution

The plant chose two screw pumps to raise the secondary effluent to the tertiary filter building. The pumps, each 48 inches in diameter and 26 feet in length, are based on Archimedes' ideas for lifting water, and were installed at the Greencastle plant in 1981.

Result

The pumps performed well, helping allow the plant to reduce suspended solids and BOD to easily meet discharge limits. The screw pumps have operated virtually maintenance-free.
