Industrial Water Recycle

Many industries are faced with restrictions on their water usage or on the quality and quantity of water they can discharge from their facility, or both. This is particularly true in arid regions where water is scarce and the environment is very sensitive to industrial discharges. To maintain or expand the operation of their facilities, these industrial customers are forced to reclaim/ reuse their wastewater, and minimize their discharge to the environment.

Industrial Water Recycle

While treatment objectives may vary, Siemens Water Technologies has been helping industries meet water and wastewater treatment challenges for decades. Our solutions allow industries to reclaim and reuse wastewater, reducing the amount of fresh water the facility must purchase. Reclaim/reuse systems may also enable a facility to expand if there is a limit on the amount of fresh water that can be used.

For facilities that must meet environmental regulations, reclaim/reuse solutions can reduce the volume and cost of wastewater discharged from a facility, potentially to zero if the customer is able to use evaporation ponds or a thermal mechanical process, such as evaporators, crystallizers, or dryers.

Many facilities can also realize operating cost reduction. By treating wastewater to produce high quality water for reuse in the facility chemical consumption in the CT, boiler, or process may be reduced.

Siemens Water Technologies has supplied reclaim/reuse systems for all types of industries, including Power Generation, Mining & Metals, Pulp & Paper, Microelectronics, Food & Beverage, Biopharmaceutical, Automotive, Oil Refining/ Petrochemical, Biofuel/ Alternative Fuel Plants and Textiles. Each of these industries has different sources of wastewater that must be evaluated carefully in order to find the right treatment solution.

Technologies included in the treatment process may include chemical feed, softening, clarification, filtration, sludge dewatering, or sludge thickening.

Industrial Water Recycle Case Study

PSEG Power Leads the Way in Water Reclamation

A statewide drought prompted the NJDEP commissioner to announce mandatory water use restrictions.  This meant that all New Jersey companies using more than 100,000 gallons of water per day had to submit a water conservation contingency plan to the NJDEP.

PSEG Power of Newark, N.J. responded by forming a drought emergency response team that developed water conservation plans for each of its generating plants.  They wanted to increase the water reuse capacity of the Bergen Station plant and also design a system that would treat reclaimed water and make it pure enough to feed the station's boilers.
