How Can We Address the Demands of Tomorrow?

Siemens Water Technologies is uniquely positioned to provide answers for some of the world’s most pressing water challenges: limited availability, deteriorating quality, and protecting sensitive watersheds from contamination.  Siemens delivers completely integrated solutions, services and innovative technologies designed to help industry and communities conserve, protect and manage the world's limited water resources today, and for the future.

    Our Solutions

Around the world, municipalities are feeling the pressure of aging water and wastewater infrastructure, especially in the face of financial difficulties.  Upgrading this infrastructure for purposes of maintenance and compliance can be daunting enough.  But then, the pressure is added to deliver sustainable solutions to combat dwindling water supplies in the face of increasing population in a way that is cost-effective and energy-saving.

Several nations have responded with stimulus packages to assist communities with the financial burden of upgrading, providing more funding for water-related distribution and treatment projects—and quickly.  While there are a variety of issues related to treatment, most projects fall into two major categories: upgrades and expansions to existing facilities,  and projects aimed to alleviate water scarcity concerns.  Each of these represents significant challenges and questions on how to meet the goals of the community—whether they are related to quality, quantity, or the environment.

    Upgrading and Retrofitting Existing Infrastructure

As our population grows and regulations tighten, municipalities are faced with upgrading or replacing existing treatment works.  Many options exist to meet required standards while still allowing for future expansion.  Retrofitting is a cost-effective way to utilize existing infrastructure while upgrading with new technologies.  For example, adding new equipment that reduces energy consumption can help lower operating costs, improve performance, and reduce maintenance, life-cycle costs, construction costs, and land usage requirements.

Siemens offers many customer-driven technologies that can help meet regulatory requirements or expand plant capacity efficiently and effectively.  These include Trident® HS filtration and clarification systems, Millennium III™ Chlorine Dioxide Generators, OSEC® Hypochlorite Generation Systems, CONTRAFAST® Clarifiers, and Siemens’ latest wireless-to-web remote monitoring and control solution: the Link2Site Flex™ Solution.

Alternative Source Water Treatment – to Address Water Scarcity

Growing water scarcity concerns around the world have caused many municipalities to make better use of their water resources by adopting alternative source water treatment techniques, specifically water reuse and desalination.  Both options are viable methods to augment dwindling water supplies—and both are becoming more accepted.

Siemens’ arsenal of water reuse technologies includes the Forty-X™ Disc Filter, Barrier® Ultraviolet Systems, and MEMCOR® CS and CP Ultrafiltration Systems.  Siemens is also working on new desalination technologies to reduce energy consumption and reduce the need for chemicals that impact the environment.
