 Biosolids Treatment - Dewatering

Biosolids are the nutrient-rich organic materials resulting from the treatment of domestic sewage at a wastewater treatment facility. Through biosolids management, solid residue from wastewater treatment is processed to reduce or eliminate pathogens and minimize odors, forming a safe, beneficial agricultural product.  Farmers and gardeners have been recycling biosolids for ages.

Biosolids can be applied as fertilizer to improve and maintain productive soils and stimulate plant growth. They also are used to fertilize gardens and parks and reclaim mining sites. Biosolids are carefully monitored and must be used in accordance with regulatory requirements.

In most cases, biosolids must be dewatered before they can be beneficially reused. Biosolids are often just 3-5 percent solids, so removal of the water from the material is essential to reducing weight and the cost of further treatment or disposal or reuse.

A variety of technologies are employed to dewater biosolids—including presses, centrifuges, and other devices

Siemens offers a complete range of biosolids dewatering systems, for small as well as large treatment plants, and suitable for all forms of reuse applications—including land spreading, composting, and incineration. These technologies include:

Siemens provides pilot treatment systems and analytical testing to document the effectiveness of treatment prior to installation. We also provide parts and service on all of our equipment, as well as equipment which may have been provided by other manufacturers.

Case Study: Centrifuges Replace Drying Beds

The Florida panhandle is booming, especially scenic Walton County, the sixth fastest growing county in Florida. Also booming are the challenges for Regional Utilities of Walton County…Walton County’s continual growth places a large burden on the treatment plants, especially their sludge drying beds. A couple of days of rain would put them way behind.
