Meet the Future of Clarification and Biological Treatment

Siemens signed an agreement to acquire Cambridge Water Technology (CWT), based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The deal is expected to close in February 2012.

The acquisition will strengthen the Siemens product portfolio with two innovative and proven technologies for advanced water and wastewater treatment. The technologies developed and patented by CWT increase the rate of solids removal and enhance the capacity and contaminant removal performance of water and wastewater treatment systems.

The company has marketed its solutions under the BioMag™ and CoMag™ brands, primarily in the municipal wastewater market along with a few industrial markets. Its proprietary technologies are based upon a novel approach to optimize biological treatment and clarification.

The BioMag technology provides the remarkable ability to increase the capacity of activated sludge systems by two to three times without adding any new tanks, manage high wet weather flows through existing clarifiers, and enable enhanced nutrient removal levels down to 3 mg/l TN and 0.2 mg/l TP at costs that are substantially less than conventional systems.

The CoMag technology is a highly effective solids removal process that is applicable to surface water as well as tertiary wastewater treatment.  It achieves ultra-low removal of  phosphorus, TSS, turbidity, color, and other particulate contaminants.

CWT will report into Siemens’ municipal wastewater treatment business, which is based out of Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA. Marc Roehl is leading the integration efforts.
