Float-Treat® DAF thickeners have outstanding performance records for solids concentrating on water and wastewater sludges. Plants have obtained 5% total solids and more on biological sludges alone, far surpassing the performance of conventional gravity type systems.
The millions of tiny air bubbles in the Float-Treat® thickeners float solids to the tank surface, forming a highly concentrated sludge blanket. The compacting effect of the continuous supply of air bubbles results in a sludge concentration much greater than normally obtained by gravity sedimentation. Skimmers remove the thickened sludge at the end of the tank for disposal. An important principle is the introduction of air into an external liquid source, such as recirculated effluent. The recycled liquid is pumped at elevated pressure to a saturation tank where air is introduced. Microscopic air bubbles are formed as the pressure of this stream is reduced just before re-entry into the flotation compartment.
- Design flexibility - many tank sizes, concrete or steel, new or existing installations, with or without chemical addition
- Efficient, low-cost performance - use of simplified and standard components; sound and proven hydraulic design assures economical basin construction
- Economic pressurization system - optimum air saturation with pressure vessel design means the minimum amount of pressurized flow is needed, thus reducing cost of pumping equipment, pressure vessels and pumping costs
- Controlled results - correct pressurized flow for each application assures that results for every task are controlled
