Challenge
In the Fall of 2005, Siemens Water Technolgoies (formerly USFilter) provided a turnkey treatment system to the Town of Millsboro, Delaware to remove TCE (Trichloroethylene) from their well water. The town public water supply is used both locally and for export to neighboring towns indicated an average of 70 - 90 parts per billion (ppb) of trichloroethylene, about 14 times higher than the federal limit of 5 ppb.
Solution
Siemens provided two treatment systems, each designed to treat more than 250 gpm of drinking water. The systems consist of (3) PV 2000 carbon adsorbers each containing Westates brand AquaCarb 830AWS granular activated carbon. Additionally, Siemens provided on-site installation of the vessels, interconnecting pipe, loading of the activated carbon and startup.
Results
Siemens was able to mobilize the equipment and provide manpower to bring the contaminated wells back on line within 4 days of contract award. The Town was able to lift the emergency ban on contaminated water from the well site.
