09/01/2008|Order from China Communications Construction Company: Siemens to Supply Electrical Equipment for Heavy Lift Carrier
Siemens Ltd. China has received an order from China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC) to provide the electrical equipment for a heavy lift carrier with a carrying capacity of 20,000 dwt. The equipment package includes the propulsion system, a medium-voltage distribution system, a power management system and the automation system. The order is worth several million euros. The heavy lift carrier will be built in a dockyard in south China and is to be put into service at the end of 2009.

08/29/2008|Revamp of Coiler Units and New Crop Shear: Siemens Modernizes Hot Strip Mill for voestalpine Stahl in Austria
Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from voestalpine Stahl GmbH in Austria to modernize parts of a hot strip mill at the company's Linz location. This includes renewal of coiler units and installation of a new crop shear. The order value is in the two-digit million euro range and the project is scheduled for completion in July 2010.

08/27/2008|Second Order for Caster Capable of Casting Ultra-Thick Slabs from voestalpine Stahl GmbH - Use of LiquiRob for the first time in a European steel works improves safety
Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH & Co received a contract from the Austrian steel producer voestalpine Stahl GmbH, a company of the listed voestalpine Group, for the supply of a new single-strand slab caster. The order value for Siemens VAI is a two-digit-million euro figure. This will be the second slab-caster project to be implemented for the Linz-based steel producer capable of casting slabs in thicknesses of up to 355 millimeters: The upgraded machine was restarted in summer 2007. The new slab caster with a straight mold and a bow radius of ten meters is scheduled for start-up in September 2010. For the first time in a European steel works LiquiRob robot systems will be used on the casting platform. This will improve the safety of the operating personnel considerably.

08/26/2008|Siemens to Supply Equipment for New Shaft Winding Installations of the Shandong Yuncheng Coal Mine
Siemens International Trading Ltd., Shanghai, has received an order from the Shandong Yuncheng Coal Mine to supply the drives, automation systems and braking systems for three new shaft winding installations. The project is worth more than ten million euros. The winding installations are scheduled to start production in Spring 2010.

08/25/2008|Another 400-mm-Thick-Slab Caster to be Installed at Shougang – Siemens to Supply Total of Three Slab Casters for New Production Facility in Tangshan, China
The Chinese steel producer Shougang Group Co. awarded Siemens VAI Metals Technologies projects for the supply of three new continuous-casting machines, including a caster capable of casting ultra-thick slabs of up to 400 millimeters. The casters will be installed at the new facility of Tangshan Shougang Baoye Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. (Shougang Baoye) and will be successively started up beginning in September 2009. The orders were received shortly after the order from the Shougang Group for the supply of a 400-millimeter-thick-slab caster at Qinhuangdao ShouQin Metals Material Co. Ltd.

08/21/2008|Siemens VAI Grows the Metals and Mining Business in India by Extending Solution and Service Portfolio
The building of new manufacturing capacities in India and the introduction of advanced processes for producing high grade iron and steel products in India will drive the business of Siemens VAI, a 100% subsidiary of Siemens AG; Germany. “We expect a double digit growth over the market average of 7 to 9 per cent thanks to new projects and service solutions”, Ashoke Pan said to media at the Press Club of Kolkata on Thursday. Pan, responsible for the metals technologies business of Siemens VAI in India, implemented an initiative in Kolkata to extend the business portfolio with modernization, upgrades, special equipment and services to support growth. „We want to expand our capacities in India and to develop and train our employees to make a strong team for securing and sustaining our position in this market segment”, Pan said.

08/21/2008|Further Orders from China's Heavy-plate Sector: Siemens Supplies new 5-meter Plate Mill to Shougang Baoye and Modernizes additional Rolling Line
Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received orders from China's Shougang International Trade & Engineering Corporation, Beijing, to supply a new 5-meter plate mill and modernize an existing rolling line. The rolling mill is to be built near Tangshan Shougang Baoye Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. (Shougang Baoye) in Tangshan City and is scheduled to start operating in the middle of 2010. A 3.5-meter plate mill planned by Shougang Baoye itself will be fitted out with a Mulpic intensive cooling section and new drive systems. The installation work is scheduled for completion by the beginning of 2010. The total volume of the orders amounts to around 70 million euros.

08/20/2008|Siemens Installs Belt Conveyor System for Vattenfall in Saxony, Germany - 6000 Metric Tons of Coal per Hour from the Open-cast Mine to the Power Station
The Siemens Industry Solutions (IS) Division is to serve as the general contractor for the installation of a 13.5-kilometer-long belt conveyor system for Vattenfall Europe Mining AG in the German federal state of Saxony. The system is scheduled to start operating in the middle of 2010 and will transport raw brown coal from the Reichwalde open-cast mine to Boxberg power station. The value of the order is in the middle two-digit million euro range.

08/19/2008|New Power Coilers for X100 Tubular Steels: Siemens VAI Modernizes Group of Coilers for Severstal in Russia
Siemens VAI Metal Technologies has received an order from Russian steel producer OAO Severstal to modernize the coilers of hot rolling mill 2 at the company's Tscherepowez location. The existing coilers 4 and 5 are to be replaced with Power Coilers. This will enable coiling of high strength steel, up to and including X100 tubular steels. The total order value is in the two-digit million Euro range. According to customer’s requirements, the installation will take place in 2010.

08/15/2008|Siemens to Provide IPS Composting System Agitators for Burlington County, New Jersey Composting Plant
Siemens Water Technologies has been awarded a contract to provide five IPS Composting System agitators to the Burlington County, New Jersey Board of Chosen Freeholders, as part of an upgrade to the county’s 10-year-old composting plant. The plant supports the county’s biosolids composting and beneficial use program for 14 municipal wastewater treatment plants. The new IPS equipment will replace the plant’s existing 10-year-old Siemens’ composting agitators. Two agitators will be delivered this year, with the other three installed in early 2009. This schedule will allow the capital cost to be spread out for two fiscal years, and the entire order delivered within the shortest time frame so as not to impede plant operations.
