Water and Resource Recovery, Recycle, Reuse & Zero Liquid Discharge

Siemens Water Technologies can design a wide range of treatment systems for resource recovery and water recovery for recycle or reuse. Typical resource recovery systems combine filtration, ion exchange, membrane separation, reverse osmosis, and evaporation technologies. These technologies are often combined to provide complete zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems.

We specialize in a wide range of solution treatment technologies for resource recovery and water recovery for recycle or reuse. Depending on the application, our systems stand alone, or function as unit operations in a larger treatment scheme. Our systems range in size from a few gallons per minute to millions of gallons each day for industries including:

  • Semiconductor Manufacturing: We have a keen appreciation for the ultrapure water requirements in the semiconductor industry. An 8-inch wafer may require as much as 2,000 gallons of high purity water to produce. The large volumes of lightly contaminated water produced in this manufacturing process can be economically recovered for reuse.
  • Printed Circuit Board Manufacturing: We offer a number of resource recovery systems for the printed circuit board industry. For example, reverse osmosis (RO) and ion exchange (IX) technologies remove heavy metals and purify wastewater for recycle.

Also, Siemens provides systems that can concentrate effluents from aqueous-based resist strippers or recover acids for etchant recycling.

  • Plating and Metal Finishing: IX and RO systems enable plating operations of all sizes to recover and recycle costly metals – everything from copper to zinc. In addition, membrane systems can clarify wastewater or recover alkaline cleaners for reuse.
  • Food and Beverage: Membrane systems are effectively used to recover water from CIP operations. They also concentrate sugars and recover water for reuse applications. These systems, which can replace biological treatment, control biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and produce concentrate for resale.
  • Power Industry: Microfiltration softening and reverse osmosis systems are used to minimize cooling tower blowdown in areas where water is scarce or discharge of brine is an issue.

Features and Benefits
