10/20/2008|Siemens’ Pulsed Air MBR System Decreases Operation Costs and Energy Usage
Siemens Water Technologies’ new MemPulse membrane bioreactor (MBR) uses a mechanical device that supplies irregular pulses of air to the MBR module. This decreases operation and maintenance costs, reduces energy consumption, and increases scouring effectiveness. The process can be used with a wide range of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment applications, including water reuse, new housing developments, parks and resorts, and turnkey projects. It can also easily be retrofitted to existing plants wishing to replace conventional clarification processes with membrane separation.

09/22/2008|Siemens to Provide Wastewater Treatment Solution to help Chinese City Restore Water Quality in Taihu Lake
The Chinese city of Wuxi, in Jiangsu province, has selected Siemens to provide a solution to treat municipal waste water and help restore the water quality of Taihu Lake. An important water source for 30 million people, the lake has been heavily polluted by municipal sewage and industrial wastewater. The solution from Siemens will include a Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) system for the upgrading of Wuxi Xincheng Wastewater Treatment Plant, one of the city’s three main wastewater treatment plants. The MBR system will treat 30,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, and will play an important role in helping the city to treat more than 90 percent of its wastewater by 2010. The system is scheduled for commissioning at the end of 2008.

06/23/2008|Siemens and Singapore’s PUB cooperate on full-scale MBR validation plant at Changi Water Reclamation Plant
Siemens Water Technologies and the Singapore Public Utility Board (PUB) have agreed to cooperate on a full-scale membrane bioreactor testing facility at PUB’s Changi Water Reclamation Plant. The new, 250,000 gpd (1.0 million liter/day) MBR system will treat domestic wastewater and test new innovative design parameters for the Siemens MBR system. PUB will provide the location for the new plant, while Siemens will be responsible for all operation and maintenance aspects of the validation plant. Siemens expects the plant to be in operation for a minimum of five years.

06/09/2008|Siemens Starts Up Wastewater Reuse System in Beijing, China
Three months before the beginning of the 2008 games in Beijing, Siemens Water Technologies has started up a wastewater reuse system at the city’s Beixiaohe wastewater treatment plant. The city will use eco-friendly technologies in water/wastewater management. The goal is to process 90% of the wastewater, with 50% for recycle and reuse. The solution that Siemens provided includes a Memjet Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system, which treats wastewater for reuse in the Olympic Village central area, fountains and lakes. The treatment system has more than doubled the plant’s capacity, from 40,000 m3/day to 100,000 m3/day.

11/07/2007|Safe Water to Areas in Need: Siemens Provides Membrane Technology for 300 SkyHydrant Water Filtration System Installations Worldwide
Low maintenance, simple operation and high efficiency SkyHydrant water filtration units convert contaminated water into clean, potable water that exceeds the World Health Organization’s (WHO) requirements for potable water. Siemens Water Technologies is working with the SkyJuice Foundation of Sydney, Australia, to provide a reliable source of clean drinking water to communities without a safe water supply. Siemens supplies low-pressure membrane technology for the SkyJuice Foundation’s SkyHydrant water filtration unit. So far, over 300 systems have been installed worldwide, including a recent installation in the rural village of Obambo-Kadenge in Kenya, Africa.

10/25/2007|Siemens to Provide a Membrane Bioreactor System for Gippsland Water Factory in Australia
Siemens Water Technologies has been awarded a 2.6 million euro (4.26M AUD; 3.6M USD) contract by the Gippsland Water Factory Alliance (GWFA). Siemens will supply membranes and associated core system components for a membrane bioreactor (MBR) system as part of the new water factory project in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The MBR will treat up to 35 million liters per day (MLD) of domestic and industrial wastewater, and will provide the feed for the reverse osmosis system to produce approximately 8 MLD of Class A recycled water for use by local industry. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2008.

Siemens Water Technologies, a Division of the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S), and inge AG in Greifenberg, Germany have entered into a cooperation agreement to supply and distribute ultrafilter membrane modules. Siemens will have exclusive rights to distribute the patented water treatment modules of inge AG in the Americas, in Australia, New Zealand and in the United Kingdom. With its existing product line and the dizzer modules of inge AG, Siemens will thus have the most comprehensive range of products for water treatment in the world.
