NEW USFILTER CASE STUDY HIGHLIGHTS TWO YEARS OF PERFORMANCE AT AUSTRALIAN MICROFILTRATION PLANT

TOWSON, Md., Feb. 11, 2004 –  A new case study from USFilter titled “Bendigo 33-MGD WTP – Memcor Successfully Meets the Challenge” provides an overview of the water quality challenges, process configuration and operational performance of the largest Memcor microfiltration plant in the world.

Commissioned in early 2002, the Coliban Water Authority’s Bendigo Water Treatment Plant , received ISO 14001 accreditation in June 2003, and is successfully meeting some of the most challenging finished water quality standards in the world.

The Bendigo Water Treatment Plant was designed to meet existing guidelines and anticipate future regulations for drinking water The process treatment uses a combined treatment process that includes coagulant dosing, Memcor® submerged microfiltration (CMF-S), ozone and BAC.

Testing of the Memcor CMF-S system on this site began in 1998 during the bidding process.  Once USFilter was awarded the project, the testing was expanded to a simulation of the complete process   This simulation (Process Verification Plant) was started in October 1999 and continued to operate up to and beyond the commissioning of the full-scale plant in the Spring of 2002.

USFilter’s Bendigo WTP case study draws on two years of operational experience to discuss the raw feedwater quality, performance of the treatment process and finished water quality results.  The study highlights how the CMF-S system’s built-in pressure decay test (PDT) automatically tests each CMF-S cell daily for membrane integrity, enabling plant operators to directly verify over 4-log reduction of various pathogenic organisms.   A copy of the Bendigo case study can be obtained by contacting USFilter’s Memcor Products at 410-307-6548.

USFilter’s Memcor Products provides flexible, state-of-the-art integrated microfiltration and RO membrane solutions for treating ground water, surface water, seawater, industrial process water, and water reuse.  A leading manufacturer of municipal and industrial microfiltration systems, USFilter’s Memcor Products continues to develop new membrane polymers, module configurations and system designs for today and the future.
