    Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment Systems

In biological treatment, microorganisms feed on organic materials to stabilize them, and reduce biological oxygen demand and suspended solids in the wastewater.

    Anerobic Biological Reactor
    BIOPAQ® IC Reactor

Industrial effluent treatment is considered an effective way to control costs, improve efficiencies and to comply with industry standards and effluent discharge limits. Restrictions related to lack of space or to other factors, do however, prevent the treatment of effluent on site for many companies. With the development of high rate Internal Circulation (IC) reactors, BIOPAQ® provides an opportunity for industries with limited available space to treat their effluent, and in addition, both noise and odor issues have been addressed. Efficiently designed industrial IC effluent treatment, built to suit existing circumstances, has now become a proven technology, with hundreds of examples worldwide in various industrial sectors.

    BIOPAQ® IC Reactor
The BIOPAQ® IC (Internal Circulation) technology is an advanced anaerobic treatment technology that is applicable for the treatment of certain high strength organic wastewaters, and builds upon the design concepts of the UASB.

    BIOPAQ® UASB Reactor
The BIOPAQ® UASB Reactor uses the Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) treatment concept whereby a dense blanket of granular anaerobic biomass is employed to bring about the conversion of organic compounds that are passed through the sludge blanket on a continuous basis. Typical conversion rates lie in the 8-12 kg COD/m3.d range.  Biogas produced from the liquid effluent phase is separated and collected at the top of the reactor.

    Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment Case Study

Thailand Brewery Installs Wastewater Treatment Plant, Generating Biogas and Reducing Sludge Volume

Boon Rawd Brewery, Thailand's first and largest brewery, was founded by Phraya Bhirom Bhakdi in 1933.  To date, Boon Rawd's product lines include beer, soda water, drinking water and ready to drink non-alcoholic beverages.  At present, the company owns and operates three breweries and seven soda water and drinking facilities located in regions across Thailand.  With a constant increase in demand, the company planned to increase its brewing capacity at Khon Kaen brewery , a subsidiary company of Boon Rawd Brewery by mid 2007, which generates larger volumes of wastewater in parallel.  Khon Kaen Brewery wanted to ensure that discharge qualities were consistently met in the new wastewater treatment plant and that biogas was generated as an alternate source of fuel for use in a boiler system.  They also wanted to reduce the volume of sludge generated.
