Emergency Vapor Scrubbers

The Siemens Water Technologies Emergency Vapor Scrubber Systems set the standard for emergency vapor treatment in the water and wastewater industries.

Emergency Vapor Scubbers

Gas scrubbing is an effective way to prevent the emission of potentially hazardous gases in drinking water. Chlorine, the most common disinfectant used in drinking water applications, has many benefits, but accidental releases of chlorine gas can pose health risks for persons at or adjacent to the treatment plant.

Our Emergency Vapor Scrubber Systems have been tested by an independent laboratory for chlorine releases from 150 lbs up to one ton and release rates up to 100 lbs/min with maximum discharge concentrations never exceeding 2 PPM. To the best of our knowledge, no other supplier has conducted independent testing at C.A.B.O. approved testing facility.

These EVSS units are:

  • Factory assembled
  • Skid mounted
  • Inexpensive to install
  • Designed to contain and treat up to eight 150-lb. chlorine cylinders
  • Minimum maintenance at remote, unmanned locations

Siemens also provides pilot treatment systems and analytical testing to document the efficacy of treatment prior to installation. We also provide parts and service on all of our equipment, as well as equipment which may have been provided by other manufacturers.

Emergency Vapor Scrubbers Case Study

Packaged Chlorine Scrubber System Provides Safe Chlorination at Remote Wells in Southern California

The Rancho California Water District (RCWD) serves Temecula, Murrieta, and surrounding areas of Southern California.  The district is blessed with a large, natural underground water source.  The Temecula Valley Aquifer supplies water from 52 wells. Anticipating additional growth, RCWD approached Siemens RJ Environmental group looking for a way to chlorinate their wells and pump stations, and protect against emergency releases. To date they have purchased a total of 14 chlorination-chlorine scrubber systems.

According to Don Peck, Water Quality Supervisor for RCWD, "We haven’t had any chlorine leaks or spills, but these systems are like insurance, you have to have it in the event of a catastrophe."
