Answers for Water Scarcity - Water Reuse and Desalination

Water scarity, due to climate change and population growth, affects one-third of the world's population.

Siemens can help you to augment your water resources - safely and reliably - with innovative solutions for water reuse and desalination.

Reusing water can help augment your municipality's scarce water supplies while providing a sustainable resource for agriculture, irrigation and industrial operations.

Desalination is a viable option for potable water stressed coastal communities.

Water Reuse Solutions:

Product

Description

Forty-X™Disc Filter

The Forty-X™disc filter from Siemens Water Technologies is the ultimate barrier in tertiary filtration, water reuse and process water filtration.  It captures more solids in a smaller footprint with a pleated media design and has evolved to incorporate many extras that are important in woven cloth media filtration.

MemPulse™ Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) System

The MemPulse® MBR combines energy and space efficiency into a robust system that combines biological aeration tanks with a membrane module - eliminating the need for a large clarifier and tertiary filtration system.  It is a compact system with 3-4 times the biological inventory of conventional activated sludge plants.

Ultrafiltration Systems

The Memcor® product line has been used in hundreds of reuse applications as an effective pre-treatment to reverse osmosis. We offer sustainable and cost effective solutions in both pressurized and submerged configurations.  Technologies are available as stand-alone, pre-packaged units or as components for large projects.

UV Disinfection Systems

UV technology is a safe and cost-effective alternative to chlorination. The Barrier® UV product lines are offered in a versatile range of systems for wastewater treatment and water reuse applications that allow us to configure a solution to meet your municipality's needs.

Desalination Solutions:

Memcor® Submerged Membrane System Starts Up at Orange County Water District
The Orange County Water District (OCWD) of Fountain Valley, California needed to increase its potable water supplies to meet the future water demands of this fast-growing area.  In 1997, the OCWD and the Orange County Sanitation District released a joint report proposing a groundwater replenishment project (GWRS) to serve the residents of Orange County.  The project would reclaim secondary treated wastewater, reducing the amount of wastewater discharged to the ocean, and providing a new local water source.  It would also improve the overall water quality in the groundwater basin by reducing the mineral content as well as preventing ocean water contamination.

Award Winning Recycled Water Plant Relies on Memcor® Low-Pressure Membrane Technology
In 2006, fast growing South-Eastern Queensland, Australia, faced severe water shortages. Drought and population increases resulted in Level 5 water restrictions for much of the region. They needed a solution to ensure an alternative sustainable source of purified recycled water (PRW) to supplement water supplies for the Swanbank Power Station for use in the cooling process, thus reducing demand on the region’s drinking water supply.  Read More

Membrane Filtration System Improves Water Sustainability at NEWater Plant in Changi, Singapore
Due to continuous growth in population and industry, wastewater management and reclamation is an important topic for Singapore to ensure a future sustainable water supply. Although water is precious for this city-state, so is space. When Siemens Water Technologies was selected by Sembcorp plant design and operations firm to supply equipment and engineering for the membrane filtration portion of the Sembcorp NEWater Plant, space requirements and power consumption were key requirements.
